MACROLST.exe
A Utility for Translating WordPerfect 5.1 Macros
to ASCII Test Files
by
Jeffrey S. Kane, Ph.D.
Performance Sciences International
Summerfield, NC
1. Read the MacroAde.doc and Disclaim.er files distributed with this
utility.
2. Requires:
A. WordPerfect 5.1
B. MS/PC-DOS 3.0 or higher
3. Features:
This program will rapidly create an ASCII text file that
exactly duplicates how a WordPerfect 5.1 macro appears in the
macro editing screen within WordPerfect. The resulting file
will have an additional header containing the name and
description of the macro. After the header the program also
inserts the word 'STARTMACRO:', which serves as the code
delimiter for the compilation process.
The benefits of being able to create text file listings
of macros are twofold:
A. Macros can be printed out for purposes of
reproduction in reports and publications, sharing
with others, and working on their revision or
debugging away from one's computer.
B. Macros can be edited using one's favorite text
editor (e.g., QEDIT, MultiEdit, VEDIT, Norton
Editor), which in every case offer vastly superior
editing capabilities than WordPerfect's internal
macro editor. In addition, the user will have the
advantage of familiarity with his/her editor, which
should enable greater efficiency in the creation
and revision of macros.
Two additional features of the Macrolst program are worth
noting:
A. With the release of Version 2.0 of MacroAde, macros
of ANY size can now be decompiled.
B. The source file that Macrolst produces can be directly
recompiled into an executable .wpm file by the companion
program, MCompile.exe.
4. Installation:
Installing Macrolst.exe could hardly be simpler. All you
need to do is copy the Macrolst.exe file to the directory
where your WordPerfect macro files reside. Strictly speaking,
it doesn't even have to be in this directory, but if the
assumption is correct that all your work with macros will be
stored here, this is the most convenient place to keep
Macrolst.exe.
5. Operation:
Using Macrolst is as easy as installing it. All you do
is enter the following command:
MACROLST macroname
where 'macroname'=the name of the macro (.wpm) file to be
translated to ASCII text, with or without the .wpm extension
(the program assumes the .wpm extension if you don't supply
it).
The program will produce a file having a name consisting
of the macro's name with a .LST extension instead of .wpm.
This file will contain the ASCII text listing preceded by the
header information and code delimiter mentioned previously in
the Features section.
6. Technical support:
